Our previous writer’s workshop session used Eric Carle’s classic, “Brown Bear, Brown, Bear, What Do You See” as a mentor text. Students then devised their own characters and drew them. Link to Post
The lesson was such a success, many students used their free-time to make even more characters. However, we are presently studying conservation and environmental stewardship. It was clear to me it would be better to use the iPads to write about these characters.
Using the bookcreator app on our iPads, students continued pursuing their interest in developing characters, and understood the importance of conserving paper. I took the time to demonstrate how to use the app with the whole class. When we broke-off into smaller groups, I had opportunities to work individually with students who needed another demonstration. All the students achieved success, and plenty of paper was conserved.
